TORONTO, ON, NOVEMBER 13, 2024/insPRESS/ – 30 Forensic Engineering, Canada’s leading multidisciplinary forensics firm, is pleased to announce that Nishan Perera B.A.Sc., P.Eng., has achieved the designation of Certified Forensic Video Analyst (CFVA) through the Law Enforcement & Emergency Services Video Association (LEVA). Nishan possesses over 200 hours of specialized training in forensic video analysis and has led over 120 investigations related to video or image analysis in areas such as collision reconstruction, slip, trip and falls, crime scene incidents, and special investigation involving fraudulent activities.
Nishan underscores the significant value of achieving the CFVA certification, stating: “Currently, as the only professional engineer in Canada to earn this designation and one of the few to be recognized as an expert in Forensic Video Analysis by the courts, this advanced training has significantly enhanced our team’s ability to meticulously analyze video files. Earning the Certified Forensic Video Analyst (CFVA) designation requires over 150 hours of dedicated study and rigorous testing. This credential is a testament to the professional integrity and commitment of those who ensure video evidence is analyzed with the highest level of scientific accuracy.
Nishan is a Senior Associate with the Collision Reconstruction Group and leads the Digital Media Analysis team at 30 Forensic Engineering. He is a registered professional engineer in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia, holding a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Automotive Engineering. He is also a Certified Forensic Video Technician (CFVT) and Certified Forensic Video Analyst (CFVA) through the Law Enforcement & Emergency Services Video Association (LEVA) and is specialized in the forensic video analysis of CCTV, cell phone, and dashboard camera footage. In addition, Nishan’s aptitude extends into the application of photogrammetric techniques to extract measurements and locations of objects from photographs. He has been involved in conducting vehicle examinations and extracting ‘Black Box’ Data, as well as the investigation of over 500 collisions involving heavy trucks, automobiles, motorcycles, and pedestrians. Prior to his career in forensic engineering, Nishan specialized in tool and product design in the manufacturing industry and has investigated aerial lift failures and product liability issues relating to aerial lifts across the United States.
