4-1 at FC Sevilla: Dortmund is ready for FC Bayern

Trainer Edin Terzic took his players in his arms relieved, the fans were already singing their hearts out for the league summit against FC Bayern after the encouragement in the Champions League. With an easy 4-1 win at FC Sevilla, which was completely overwhelmed, BVB warmed up on Wednesday for the German Clásico on Saturday. Raphael Guerreiro (6th minute), Jude Bellingham (41st), Karim Adeyemi (43rd) and Julian Brandt (75th) decided the one-sided game. Youssef En-Nesyri scored for Sevilla (51st).

Coach Terzic’s team got off to a perfect start against a weak opponent. After a wonderful change of sides from Bellingham, Guerreiro struck from the edge of the box into the far corner to take the lead. After about 20 minutes, BVB would almost have been outnumbered. The referee of Sevilla’s En-Nesyri had already shown red because of an emergency brake against Salih Özcan. But then he looked at the video images again and recognized a foul by Adeyemi in advance. He took back the red card.

Moukoko plays for Modeste

Nevertheless, the Bundesliga club didn’t have much trouble. His team showed impressively why Sevilla coach Lopetegui has to go. The Andalusians were so aimless and disoriented defensively that Dortmund should have scored even more goals had they executed their attacks properly. The 33rd minute was a symbol of this: BVB had time and space in the penalty area against wildly defending hosts, but in the end Youssoufa Moukoko shot too hectically. The way the 17-year-old took the ball before Adeyemi made it 3-0 was world class.

Moukoko was preferred to the recently weak Anthony Modeste. The teenager revived the BVB offensive with his speed, only the last step or pass was missing at first. And that’s exactly why Sevilla stayed in the game for the time being. It also became clear that BVB is always vulnerable on the defensive. Emre Can showed how vulnerable. Shortly before the break, the six dribbled in the center of midfield and invited Sevilla to counterattack. Only a brilliant save by Alexander Meyer prevented the equaliser.

Shortly after the break, Nico Schlotterbeck was inattentive in a header duel with En-Nesyri, which allowed the Moroccan to catch up. That’s one of the reasons why Dortmund is hoping for a return of the sick Mats Hummels against Bayern. The seemingly eternal puzzle of Borussia remains: the constant dropouts, the recurring fluctuations in performance.

This time it was enough, because the opponent sometimes appeared desolate. This is how Dortmund extended the lead. Bellingham completed a wonderful attack even more wonderfully and kicked the ball into the goal. Shortly thereafter, Adeyemi followed up after a fantastic assist from Moukoko. But the dropouts remained in the second round. After the connection, Sevilla always had promising attacks when BVB acted inattentively. This time it was not punished. Instead, Brandt headed in to the final score.
