NAfter the manhole cover was thrown onto the A7 motorway near Hildesheim with two seriously injured people, the suspect was taken into custody. At the request of the public prosecutor’s office, a magistrate issued a pre-trial arrest warrant against the 50-year-old, according to the public prosecutor’s office and the police. The man was arrested the same day.
On Saturday night, two manhole covers and stones were thrown from a bridge onto the A7 autobahn near Hildesheim. One of the covers broke through the windshield of a car, the police and prosecutors said on Saturday. The two occupants of the vehicle were seriously injured.
The incident happened on a bridge between the towns of Hasede and Asel. At around 3:30 a.m., the police received information that stones were being thrown onto the road and that there was an accident as a result. On site, emergency services then found the heavily damaged vehicle with the two injured, who were immediately taken to hospitals. Other vehicles were also damaged, some when driving past and some by running over objects.
In the immediately initiated search, the 50-year-old man was identified and arrested as a suspect. The police asked witnesses to come forward. A helicopter was also used as part of the police operation. A homicide commission was set up to investigate further.
