Edeka Südwest is the first German supermarket chain to offer wine in 0.75 liter reusable bottles. The bottles have a 25 cent deposit and can be returned to return machines.
The “Lebensmittel Zeitung” reports that selected types of wine will initially be offered in Württemberg. The containers come from Wein-Mehrweg eG, whose member companies already sell the bottles through specialist beverage retailers in southern Germany. These bottles can be refilled up to 50 times.
As the first German retailer: Edeka now sells wine bottles with a deposit
Before listing with Edeka, the food retail sector was hesitant because there was a lack of suitable 6-pack boxes. Wein-Mehrweg is now providing these in cooperation with the crate manufacturer Oberland. The “Lebensmittel Zeitung” quotes the cooperative: “After Edeka, another large, nationally active food retail player will offer the bottles in the first markets.”
