Like a human metronome, choreographer Marne van Opstal sets the beat in English in the Darmstadt dance floor: “9, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.” Seemingly endless columns of numbers: “and 10, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.” At the front, on the stage of the Big House, the 16 men and women of the dance company perform their laps over the high steps of a white stand. They swarm out to the sides, form in two rows behind a man at the ramp, then swarm in front of him. The solid formation of the bodies dissolves into individual parts. But that doesn't really work yet – a good week before the premiere of the dance piece “I am Bob”, which Marne and his sister Imre van Opstal contribute to the double evening “Broken Bob” of the Hessian State Ballet in Darmstadt – the premiere is on October 18th.
