On November 21st, the sitelinks search box will disappear from Google search. It was an integral part of the search engine for more than ten years and enabled users to search for content directly on specific websites within the results.
Google search will soon be without a sitelinks box
The feature usually appears under search results that link to searchable sites such as online shops, magazines or news portals. You can enter additional search terms to find content on these websites without leaving Google.
In a new entry on the Google Search Central blog, the company said it has decided to turn off the feature. The reason for this is that it is being used less and less within Google searches.
If you run your own website, you don't have to do anything. Google has assured that the removal of the Sitelinks search box will not cause search issues. In fact, it is advisable to retain the structured data associated with it, as it could potentially continue to be used by other Google systems.
“Applies globally to all search results”
Google often removes features and services that are rarely used. Therefore, this change comes as no surprise. In this way, the developer from Mountain View, California, ensures that it provides its users with the best possible experience without overloading them with unnecessary artifacts.
“The change applies globally to all search results, in all languages and countries,” the blog post continued. “Once we stop showing sitelinks search box elements in Search, we will remove the Search Console Rich Results report and no longer highlight the markup in the Rich Results Test.”
