Instagram users have reported on the platform since Wednesday evening. Dead body and violence were seen in the feeds.
Meta fixed a mistake on Thursday, which led some users to suddenly recommended disturbing and violent content in their reels on Instagram. “We have fixed a mistake that led to some users in their Instagram Reels feed that should not have been recommended. We apologize for this mistake,” said a meta spokesman in a report that is “CNBC”.
Meta emphasizes that their guidelines aim to protect users from disturbing images and to remove particularly violent or graphic content. There are exceptions for content that draw attention to important topics such as human rights violations, whereby warnings can be attached here.
Disturbing content on Instagram: dead body, serious injuries and violence
As “CNBC” reported on Wednesday evening, Reels posts appeared on Instagram, which showed dead bodies, serious injuries and violent attacks, and these were identified as “sensitive content”.
Meta explained that both internal technologies and a team of over 15,000 examiners are used to identify disturbing content and remove most of the violations before users report them. The aim is also to avoid content that is unsuitable for younger viewers.

This error occurred shortly after an announcement by META to change the moderation guidelines in order to better support freedom of expression. In January, Meta explained that the automated systems focus less on all violations of the standard, but increasingly increasingly on “illegal and serious violations”. Smaller violations are to be reported by the users themselves.
