WFrankfurt loses a big name every time. The metal company, Degussa, Hoechst above all – corporations that have disappeared; an industrial park in the west of the city, much as it adorns Frankfurt, is not the same as the Rotfabrik in Höchst once was. The Binding brewery, whose history is now surprisingly and quickly coming to an end, is no less than these addresses in the heart of this city.
Anyone who has more than just a sober view of the fact that it is important to find another job or a smooth transition into retirement for the 150 employees of the brewery will sentimentally realize that it is not just another industrial company that is disappearing, but a peculiarity of Frankfurt: a huge brewery in a prime location, not somewhere outside the city in a faceless commercial area, but surrounded by residential and office buildings. Every Frankfurter knows the always illuminated and shiny copper cauldrons from driving past on Darmstädter Landstrasse, apparently defying the passage of time. Not anymore. It is no coincidence that Binding dominated Sachsenhausen for more than a century.
