The US has strongly condemned the recent attacks by Russia on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and elsewhere in Ukraine. They demonstrated again brutality of Russian President Vladimir Putin, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said on Monday. “We will continue to support the Ukrainian people and make sure they have what they need to continue their brave struggle,” she said. On Friday, the United States announced new military aid worth up to $725 million (€745.6 million).
On Monday, Russia again attacked Ukraine. In addition to missiles, Moscow is increasingly using combat drones this time. The US accuses Iran of supplying such drones to Russia. Jean-Pierre reiterated on Monday that there was “ample evidence” of Russia’s use of weapons from Iran against military and civilian targets. “Apparently” an Iranian drone also hit downtown Kyiv, but she clearly did not commit to it. The US would continue to “vigorously” enforce sanctions on the Russian-Iranian arms trade.
The U.S. Department of State said it believed that Iran is violating embargo measures under UN Resolution 2231 by supplying drones to Russia. A ministry spokesman stressed that companies whose technology is used in Iran’s drones could face US sanctions. “A deepening of the alliance between Russia and Iran is something that should be viewed as a profound threat around the world and especially in the region,” he said.
