In Kenya, there has been a power outage in large parts of the country. This was reported by local media from the East African country on Wednesday morning. A Nairobi resident confirmed to the FAZ that there was a power outage in the Kenyan capital.
Utility company Kenya Power said the Nairobi, Coastal and Mount Kenya regions north of the capital were affected. A system malfunction was blamed for this. “At 11:09 this morning we cut power due to a system disruption affecting parts of Nairobi, the coast and the Mt Kenya regions,” Kenya Power said in a statement.
The power company is working on the restoration. Emergency power generators were started in downtown Nairobi.
Kenya uses geothermal energy to generate electricity for millions of people in the country.
About 54 million people live in the country. In Nairobi alone, the number of residents is estimated at at least 5 million.
