Galaxy enthusiasts will soon have some new things to discover. South Korea's technology giant Samsung has unveiled its latest products – one of which will particularly please gamers.
Olympic sponsor Samsung has unveiled a range of fresh products in the city of love, Paris, that will hit stores later this year. Among them is the “Galaxy Ring”, a wearable that is on the rise. Also notable is the advance announcement of a ray tracing compatible device and a seven-year update guarantee for brand new devices. These were the main pieces of information from the recent “Galaxy Unpacked”.
Samsung plans to equip up to 200 million devices with “Galaxy AI” by the end of 2024. For this AI, for which Samsung is enlisting the help of Google's “Gemini”, it will support 16 languages and offer AI functions such as comprehensive search and translation services. In addition, “Cross Device Intelligence” is intended to enable smooth interaction between different devices. During the presentation, Samsung repeatedly emphasized that users should decide for themselves which data they share and which they keep private. In addition, the presented devices, all of which will be available from July 24, will come with a 7-year guarantee on security and operating system updates.
Samsung Ring: A new addition to the world of smart wearables
The Galaxy Ring is new to Samsung's range. The ring, available in US sizes 5 to 13, is equipped with three sensors that measure sleep and pulse. The data obtained is sent to the “Samsung Health” app, which in turn communicates with the AI to decode the results. Samsung guarantees a battery life of one week for the waterproof, titanium ring, hundreds of charging cycles and the ushering in of the age of “AI Health”. In the colors titanium black, titanium silver and titanium gold, it was presented by Samsung in Paris for 399 dollars; in Germany, the “Samsung Ring” will change hands for 449 euros.
Samsung is also addressing health issues with the Galaxy Watch Ultra. It is waterproof up to 100 meters and is equipped with a 3-nanometer processor that guarantees a battery life of up to 100 hours in energy-saving mode. It was unclear at the presentation whether this battery life also applies when the “Dual Frequency GPS” function is used, i.e. two satellites are used for location instead of one. It is operated with WearOS 5, which is a first for Samsung watches. Price: 699 euros.
Foldable phone: Samsung unveils its sixth version
The brand new foldable smartphone “Galaxy Z Fold 6” has a refreshed, brighter internal display (2,600 nits), which is said to be thinner but also more durable than the previous model. At the same time, the edges around the screen are slimmer. This makes it the thinnest and lightest foldable that Samsung has ever created (239 grams). The real highlight, however, awaits gamers, as Samsung promises a device with ray tracing capability with the “Z Fold 6”. For this amount of technology, however, you should be prepared to dig deeper into your pockets: with 256 gigabytes of storage it costs 1,999 euros, with half a terabyte 2,119 euros and with one terabyte 2,359 euros.
The “Galaxy Z Flip 6”, on the other hand, has received a previously unprecedented camera equipment: This 50-megapixel camera is to be further enhanced by the so-called “Pro Visual Engine”. This involves AI-based image optimization and flexible camera functions such as auto zoom and instant slow-mo. In addition, the main display has also been upgraded to the aforementioned 2,600 nits and the manufacturer states that the battery capacity is around ten percent larger than that of its predecessors at 4,000 mAh. The sales prices range between 1,199 euros for the 256 GB and 1,319 euros for the 512 GB version.
In-ear device: AI-designed earbuds presented
In addition, Samsung has introduced the “Galaxy Buds 3 Pro” – and created the design with the help of AI. Since ears are as unique as fingerprints, the AI was used to analyze shapes and create the ideal fit. As a result, the buds should even be able to recognize how tight or loose they are in the ear and adjust the sound accordingly. And all this with a sound quality of 96 kHz, which is twice as high as the previous models. The “Galaxy AI” should also be integrated here and in the future, for example, recognize the sound of a siren and let it through to the wearer despite active “noise canceling”. The purchase price is 249 euros.
