The error in the CrowdStrike update is paralyzing computer systems worldwide. There are now initial solutions that those affected can try out.
Anyone who turns on their computer today may be in for a nasty surprise: a global computer failure is causing blue screens that prevent the devices from starting. This is causing problems in hospitals, airports and many other companies.
The reason for this is an update of the security software called CrowdStrike, which is primarily designed for Windows servers around the world used. The update caused problems for Microsoft.
There are various tips circulating in the company on how the PC can still be restarted.
There is currently no comprehensive solution from CrowdStrike for the problem. The error could be eliminated with another update within the next few days. Until then, users can test other solutions.
Coordinate with IT administration
If your computers are managed by an IT department, you should first coordinate with them on what steps should be taken before attempting any of the approaches below. You may also not have permission on the system to delete files from it.
- Start Windows in Safe Mode or Windows Recovery Environment.
- Navigate to the directory C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike
- Find the file C-00000291*.sys
- Delete these.
- Restart the computer.
A restart can help
A simple restart may also be sufficient if the computer freezes on the blue screen. To do this, you must press the power button on the laptop or desktop computer for several seconds to turn it off. Then start the device again.
However, there is no guarantee that the system will work again afterwards. Many users report that the PC keeps getting blue screen.
