Halberstadt in the Harz Mountains, 1990. It is a hot summer, and the lives of millions of people have been turned upside down for a few months. This includes Maren, Robert and Volker, who live in Halberstadt and have just deposited all their GDR money into their bank account. In return, they receive a new currency: the D-Mark, which was valid in the Federal Republic at the time. One night, the three of them accidentally discover a column of trucks transporting goods into an underground mine. The mine has actually been closed for a long time. When Maren, Volker and Robert break in the next day – more out of a thirst for adventure than criminal intent – they find tons of banknotes. These are banknotes that have been stored there to rot.
