Dhe full band, as Dirk Metz demanded in September, must play in Frankfurt. Otherwise there will be nothing with the deselection of Mayor Peter Feldmann on November 6th. The social democrat is currently on trial for alleged involvement in a corruption scandal involving workers’ welfare. He has also caused dissatisfaction with border crossings in public appearances and with arbitrary actions within the magistrate. A broad party alliance, to which the SPD also belongs, is therefore pursuing his deselection. And this alliance is acting too cautiously, Metz, for many years at Roland Koch’s side as government spokesman in Hesse and now a communications consultant, complained in a statement in the FAZ
Four weeks later, the perception that the anti-Feldmann coalition is not mobilizing and pooling all its forces is still correct. The only question is whether the criticism associated with it is justified. A campaign to remove him from election is a tricky thing: If the opponents overdid it with their criticism of Feldmann in terms of effort or tone, the intended effect could quickly turn into the opposite. The mayor’s camp is only waiting for mistakes on the part of the other side, with which it could restore Feldmann’s badly battered self-image as a politician close to the people who is being fought by the political and social establishment. In order to avoid this David-versus-Goliath effect, the deselection alliance only hangs up rather small-format posters that advertise the deselection without polemics, and with information stands on streets and squares.
