The so-called OCR (Optical Character Recognition) has been working on scanned documents for years. Characters are translated into texts based on font patterns. The so-called AI vision that is now emerging is adopting the principle on a larger scale. It examines the image structure of photos or graphics, recognizes objects and allows better analyses. The applications range from self-driving cars to searching X-ray images to image analysis in astrophysics and particle physics.
