His lawyer Marc Agnifilo told the AFP news agency that his client had been prosecuted “unjustly”. The rapper is described in several lawsuits as a violent sex offender who used alcohol and drugs to exploit his victims. Combs denies the allegations.
In May, news channel CNN released footage from a hotel surveillance camera showing Combs hitting his then-girlfriend Casandra Ventura, throwing her to the ground, dragging her behind him and kicking her.
Ventura sued Combs last November, accusing him of years of abuse and rape. Shortly afterwards, both agreed to a settlement. Since then, however, several other women have sued Combs for sexual assault. In March, armed police searched his villas in Miami and Los Angeles.
Combs, known by the stage names Puff Daddy, P. Diddy and Diddy, rose to become one of the most successful hip-hop musicians in the world in the 1990s. The three-time winner of the US Grammy music award is also successful as a music producer and businessman.
