In February 2020, when Chancellor Olaf Scholz was not yet chancellor, he was interviewed in “Zeit” about his readings. He was fundamentally drawn to the writings of the sociologist Andreas Reckwitz. But the then Federal Minister of Finance had little use for “The Society of Singularities”. Under this title, Reckwitz presented a comprehensive diagnosis of the times that sparked ongoing discussions beyond the boundaries of his subject. It described a profound social structural change from a modern “logic of the general” to a late modern “logic of the particular”.
