MMore than half a year after the deadly shots at two police officers near Kusel (Palatinate), another shell casing was found near the crime scene. An expert on firearms from the State Criminal Police Office of Rhineland-Palatinate reported on Wednesday in the murder trial before the district court of Kaiserslautern that it was the 15th shell that had been released from the service weapon of the killed police officer. The headstamp agrees with the 14 shells previously found.
The 15th case was found in mid-August by members of the family of the policewoman killed, reported a policewoman called as a witness. The relatives discovered them at the memorial in front of a cross that had been set up. The sleeve got there “under mysterious circumstances”. “That will probably not be clarified anymore,” said the victim’s lawyer.
According to the expert, the 15th case was significantly darker than those previously found. This suggests that she has been outdoors for a longer time and has oxidized.
A 39-year-old has been in court since the end of June as the main accused: he is said to have murdered a police candidate (24) and a police commissioner (29) with gunshots in the head during a nightly vehicle check at the end of January to cover up poaching. The act of violence caused nationwide horror.
An accomplice (33) is charged with attempted evasion. He is said to have helped cover tracks. Both men were arrested shortly after the crime in nearby Saarland.
