Antitrust proceedings by the EU Commission: Milka manufacturer Mondēlez faces fines of up to 300 million euros
The EU is currently pursuing antitrust proceedings against Mondelēz. As a result, the Milka manufacturer faces a mega penalty. There is talk of up to 300 million euros.
The Milka manufacturer Mondelēz is apparently preparing for a huge fine. The company has built up reserves of around 300 million euros, as reported by the “Lebensmittel Zeitung”. The reason for this is an ongoing EU antitrust investigation.
The accusation is: “Practices to restrict cross-border trade”. Specifically, it is about price agreements and quantity limitations. The process has been running since January 2021. In the worst case, the US group faces high penalties.

Mondēlez is currently negotiating with the EU Commission
According to Mondelēz’s plans, however, it should at best not come to that: “We are currently in talks with the European Commission in order to reach an appropriate negotiated solution to this matter.” How long these talks will last and what the result will be, is currently still completely open.
Overall, the case has been going on for several years. The first investigations began in 2019 when the locations in Bremen, Vienna and Mechelen were searched.
