Arch Re announces key promotions

Arch Reinsurance Ltd. has announced the promotions of Crystal Doughty and William Soares to the positions of chief underwriting officer for property and chief underwriting officer for casualty and specialty, respectively. Both Doughty and Soares will report to Jerome Halgan, CEO of Arch Re.

In addition, Pierre Jal, who previously served as global chief underwriting officer for Arch Re Ltd., has taken on the role of chief underwriting officer for Arch Reinsurance Europe. Jal, now based in Zurich, will continue to oversee underwriting strategy across both Arch Re and Arch Re Europe.

Matthew Dragonetti, president of Arch Re, will now have expanded responsibilities that include leading client-centric initiatives across the Arch Worldwide Reinsurance Group.

“I want to congratulate Crystal and William, both of whom have been critical to the success of Arch Re Ltd., and I am looking forward to working with them as we strive to meet the needs of our customers and grow our Bermuda platform,” Halgan said. “I am also excited to draw on Matt’s and Pierre’s experience and leadership as we advance several strategic initiatives across the reinsurance group.”

Doughty joined Arch in 2021 as a senior property underwriter and has taken a lead role in several insurance-linked securities initiatives at Arch Re. Prior to joining Arch, Doughty spent 15 years in various underwriting and actuarial positions at Markel.

Soares, who has been with Arch Re since 2006, has held several senior underwriting roles, most recently serving as the head of casualty and specialty.

Jal began his tenure with Arch Re Europe in 2007 as an underwriter/actuary and has held senior underwriting positions at both Arch Re Europe and Arch Re Ltd.

Dragonetti, one of the founders of Arch Re Ltd. in 2001, has been serving as the president and head of property since 2017.

Arch Insurance North America, another business of Arch Capital Group, recently announced the appointment of Rebecca Raisley as vice president of distribution for its accident and health unit. In November Last year, Arch Insurance International appointed Sam Bradley as senior cyber underwriter.
