In summer, temperatures of 50 degrees Celsius or more can occur inside your car – almost like in an oven. That’s why it should be clear to everyone by now that nobody should stay in the car when it’s parked. This can quickly become life-threatening, especially for children, the elderly and pets!
But there are also items that you should not keep in the car when the outside temperature is high – not even accidentally, because then it may already be too late and the damage may be irreparable.
It is best to look for a parking space in the shade wherever possible, for example with the free shadow map.
Risk of fire when it is hot: Dangerous objects in the car
Over time, all sorts of practical everyday objects accumulate in the car, but these can become a problem in summer – either because they break due to the heat or become a fire hazard.
For example, there is a risk of explosion any type of pressure vessel out of. So if you carry disinfectants, deodorant or hairspray, antifreeze or cleaning products in the car, it is better to remove them. If the containers heat up, they can burst explosively. The same applies to lighters, which could then cause a fire.
On the other hand, if you carry a bottle of motor oil in the car to refill, then you don’t have to worry. This eventually becomes significantly hotter when the engine is running without igniting.
Also dangerous: Electronic equipment such as laptops, mobile phones, tablets or even power banks can be damaged due to the built-in batteries and, in the worst case, catch fire – because if the device swells up from the heat and the lithium comes into contact with oxygen, it ignites immediately.
For comparison: Apple
recommends that the iPhone should not get warmer than 45 degrees. But even if no fire breaks out, the heat damages the batteries and causes them to age much faster. Then the service life of the device suffers.
What to do with the objects if there is no other way?
Of course, there are also situations in which you simply have to leave said items in the car for a certain period of time. In this case, it is best to put them in the trunk – there they are at least protected from direct sunlight and thus heat up significantly less. That too glove box is a suitable place for this.
However, you should avoid packing electronic devices in cooling bags or boxes, because the strong cooling can result in the inside of the devices condensation forms – deadly for the electronics. The risk of this is particularly high if food or drinks are also stored in the cool box.
