Dhe Ford Transit was, along with the VW Transporter, the most popular light commercial vehicle in Europe. Not a summer went by without the so-called guest workers going home with their fully packed transit. That’s history, today the compact Transit Custom finds new friends with parcel services, craftsmen and ultimately also campers. The new E-Transit Custom is being launched as a purely electrically driven successor.
After all, the batteries should be good for a range of 380 kilometers. On top of that, the E-Transit offers a payload of 1100 kilograms and can tow trailers of up to two tons, which is a record-breaking value. It can be charged on powerful columns with 125 kW, then it takes 41 minutes for the 74 kWh battery to be brought from 15 to 80 percent of its capacity. Two engine versions will be available when the E-Transit Custom launches as the smaller variant of the E-Transit in 2023. 136 hp (100 kW) or 217 hp are on offer, and both have a maximum torque of 415 Newton meters. The electric machine is located on the rear axle.
Ford primarily focuses on small and medium-sized companies. Tailored telematics services are offered to simplify fleet management. Live data continuously informs the fleet manager about the location and condition of the vehicle. The software also helps to determine the optimal charging strategy based on the day’s planned operations.
Ford offers three body versions, single and double cab as well as the station wagon, on top of that there are two wheelbases and two roof heights to choose from. The body is lower than before for better loading. The E-Transit Custom will be built by Otosan in Turkey, the prices are not yet known. The E-Transit, which is already on the market today, is available from 73,200 euros.
