EA week before the runoff election for the presidential office in Brazil, football star Neymar called for support for the right-wing incumbent Jair Bolsonaro. “People know what’s best for our Brazil,” the Paris Saint-Germain attacker said in a live broadcast with Bolsonaro on Saturday. Looking ahead to the World Cup in Qatar later this year, Neymar said: “Everything would be wonderful: Bolsonaro re-elected, Brazil champion and everyone happy.”
After his first goal in Qatar he will show the number 22 with his fingers, Neymar said. The right-wing incumbent advertises his party with the number 22 during his election campaign.
Neymar explained that Bolsonaro represents values that are very similar to his own and those of his family. “I realized that I needed this strength, I know that it would help a lot of people,” said the 30-year-old. He therefore calls on all people who are still undecided to vote for Bolsonaro.
In the first round of voting in early October, Bolsonaro did surprisingly well, contrary to the polls. Before the runoff next Sunday, the race is now completely open again. Both Bolsonaro and his competitor, former left-wing President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, are currently fighting for every vote and trying to win individual social groups over to their side.
