Beijing warns other countries in front of trade agreements with the USA “at the expense” of China

In the customs conflict with the United States, the Chinese government has warned other countries to conclude trade agreements with the government of US President Donald Trump at China's costs. The government in Beijing “decidedly rejected the fact that a party will make an agreement at the expense of the interests of China,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce in Beijing on Monday. “If such a situation occurs, China will never accept it and take resolutions.”

“Appeasement” will “not bring peace”, continued from Beijing. Compromises would not be “respected”. “Where the strongly exploit the weak, all countries will be sacrificed.”

Appeasement comes from the English verb “appeal” for appeasement or soothing. In the context of international relationships, the term means a policy of reluctance or accommodation towards aggressively occurring states – with the aim of preventing a war. The term is particularly connected to the policy of the British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, which was ruling from 1937 to 1940, towards Hitler-Germany.

145 percent-custom against China

US President Trump had raised high tariffs to imports of other countries in recent weeks. He was particularly hard against China, which he sees as the main opponent in trade policy. Beijing reacted with high counter -tariffs. The US tariffs on Chinese imports now amount to 145 percent, even if the US government later reduced the sentence for important imports of electronic devices to 20 percent.

A number of countries are currently negotiating with the United States about reducing tariffs, including Canada, Great Britain and Vietnam. On behalf of the EU member states, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is officially negotiating with Washington.
