Texans file suit against Marathon Digital over noise from its mining facilities
Late last week, a group of citizens from the town of Granbury, in Hood County, Texas, filed a complaint against Bitcoin (BTC) mining company Marathon Digital. In fact, more than twenty residents complain about the noise caused by the company's installations.
Rodrigo Cantú, senior attorney at Earthjustice, the firm representing the plaintiffs, emphasizes the noise pollution Marathon would cause:
Marathon's cryptomining operations generate significant noise pollution in Granbury, which has serious impacts on the health and quality of life of the surrounding community. Persistent exposure to this noise is detrimental to human health, animals and the environment.

In addition to the presence of a continuous muffled noise, residents living near the site also complain vibrations generated by the installations. Thus, they are calling on the company to take measures to reduce these nuisances, as Cheryl Shadden, a resident of Granbury, explains:
We are not asking for much, just for Marathon to take responsibility and restore our peace and well-being.
In the complaint, however, note that few decibel readings are highlighted, other than 2 recordings made on telephones. The first indicates a peak at 88 decibels on August 10, 2023 at 4:58 a.m. and another of the same value on September 22, 2023 at 3:30 a.m.

If it is true that, in fact, cryptocurrency mining installations are noisy, it is therefore likely that justice will request more data over longer periods in order to be able to rule, if action is taken on this complaint.
