TRainer Thomas Tuchel got off to a bad start in the Champions League with Chelsea, while Roger Schmidt and Benfica Lisbon are on course. The Londoners coached by Tuchel surprisingly lost 0-1 (0-1) at Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday.
The goal for Zagreb was scored by Mislav Orsic, who took advantage of Dinamo’s first chance in the 13th minute. Schmidt’s new club Benfica then prevailed 2-0 (0-0) against Maccabi Haifa. Rafa Silva (50′) and Alejandro Grimaldo (54′) scored the goals. The recently committed Julian Draxler remained on the bench.
The favorites to win the premier class also got off to a successful start. Defending champions Real Madrid confidently prevailed 3-0 (0-0) at Celtic Glasgow. Vinicius Junior (56th), Luka Modric (60th) and Eden Hazard (77th) scored for the Madrilenians, who have to worry about goalscorer Karim Benzema. The Frenchman was substituted before the break with knee pain.
Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain also started with victories. City easily won 4-0 (1-0) at ailing Sevilla FC thanks to another accurate Erling Haaland. The former Dortmunder with two goals (20th/67th), Phil Foden (58th) and Ruben Dias (90th + 2) made the goals.
Paris beat Juventus Turin 2-1 (2-0) in their home Prinzenpark. Kylian Mbappé (5th/22nd) scored twice for Paris, former Schalke player Weston McKennie (53rd) for Juve.
Chelsea and Tuchel, on the other hand, are frustrated. The CFC played with the newly signed former Bundesliga player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the German international Kai Havertz, but didn’t take advantage of his chances. The outsider convinced against the top English club with his passionate defensive work. Chelsea’s group opponents RB Salzburg and AC Milan drew 1-1 (1-1).
