Et says a lot about this country and its current government that people in the capital have come to the conviction that the best way to win over the citizens is to use a car metaphor for what is supposedly a good cause. The strategists in the government district could have simply described the draft for the new infection protection law as a phased model. But they didn’t. Instead, they designed the image of a snowy alpine road to illustrate the corona measures for autumn and winter. This is what modern political communication looks like: The metaphor of “winter tires” and “snow chains” has officially found its way into the government communication of the traffic light coalition.
Anyone who owns a car probably knows that changing to winter tires in the workshop is a nuisance, but putting on snow chains yourself in a muddy parking lot is a real nuisance. It is fitting that the federal government is limiting itself to the “winter tires” when it comes to the virus, strictly speaking not even to all four. Let’s say the front axle is enough for him – i.e. the requirement that FFP2 masks should continue to be worn in airplanes, long-distance trains and hospitals. The tires on the rear axle and the ugly attachment of the chains are a matter for others.
