With a fake emails from Amazon and PayPal, fraudsters are currently trying to enrich themselves. The consumer advice center therefore issued a warning on the occasion.
In the case of supposed employees of PayPal and Amazon, who ask for transfers or sensitive data by email or telephone, all alarm bells should shrink. And at the moment, fraudulent news is apparently increasing again. That is why the consumer center has now issued a warning about such calls and emails.
Consumer center warns: Current fraud stitches with PayPal emails
In the “Phishing Radar” of the institute it says that emails are currently being displayed, which warn of an unknown device before a supposedly new registration with a PayPal account. In addition, the messages include a request to the recipient to follow a link from the mail in order to delete other devices from the list of registered devices.
You can recognize the fraud directly on two characteristics
But if you look closely, you can quickly unmask the attempted fraud: location, time or date, which are always specified in serious registration warnings, are missing in the attempted fraud. To do this, a mostly missing salutation and a dubious sender address make the mail appear dubious. The subject is often formulated as follows: “Pay Pal: Please do this immediately”.
Even with Amazon, fraudsters use perfidious e-mail mesh
Amazon warnings are also currently circulating. With a fraudulent intention, it is stated that the customer account of the mail receiver was temporarily blocked.
This can be deactivated by updating your payment data – and within 48 hours. In this case, the emails were better camouflaged and not as obvious to identify fakes.
You should do that with the suspicious emails
In general, the consumer advice center has to ignore suspicious emails and under no circumstances to click on the links in the mails or open them. With regard to PayPal and Amazon, suspicious activities are advised to check directly in the application. In some cases, users were even contacted by phone and were sometimes asked to transfers. Here, too, the consumer advice center advises that the calls to be called immediately and in no way comply with the payment requests.
