Continuous pressing instead of snapping: WhatsApp: Update for the status updates brings back old annoyance
WhatsApp has recently also been able to set voice messages as status updates. However, the messenger takes a step backwards when it comes to implementation.
At the beginning of February, WhatApp announced for its messenger service that there would soon be some new functions for status messages. With the update for iOS and Android, for example, voice messages can now be set as status or emojis can be sent as reactions to other status messages.
The good news: These long-awaited features can now be used in the app. However, the new functions also have a catch – because the developers actually left out an important convenience function. The annoyance of some users is that if you want to set a voice message as a status, you have to keep the microphone button pressed for the entire time while recording.
WhatsApp: For voice messages in the status, a long press is suddenly necessary again
Status messages may have a maximum length of 30 seconds. Instead of staying with the well-known function, where you start the voice message with a finger swipe up and then end it with another swipe, a long press is now the order of the day. If you accidentally slip your finger, you’ll have to record the message again.
Judging by the reactions of the WhatsApp community, there are quite different opinions on the new status function. Some like to send voice messages and also set them as status, others are not at all keen on the new feature. Why WhatsApp used an annoying long press as a recording function for the new update remains open.
