Following a data leak, certain personal information of more than 92,000 customers of the Transak cryptocurrency purchasing service was accessed by a hacker. What do we know?
Transak suffers a data leak
In a press release shared on Monday, the service provider for cryptocurrency purchases Transak informed that a security breach resulted in a data leak impacting 1.14% of its customersor exactly 92,554 users.
Indeed, the device of one of the company's employees was compromised following a phishing attack, which allowed the attacker to connect to the system of a Know Your verification provider Customer (KYC). From there, a number of customer data could be accessed, which includes:
- Names;
- Dates of birth;
- Identity documents;
- User selfies.
Although this is bad enough, however, the other data would not have been affected :
After thorough verifications, we can confidently confirm that no sensitive financial information, including email addresses, phone numbers, passwords, credit card information, social security numbers or any other financial data, has been compromised in any way.

Following this event, Transak indicated that its teams were contacting those affected and that the competent authorities in several jurisdictions, including the United Kingdom and the European Union, had been informed. The breach was also contained and steps were taken to improve employee cybersecurity training.

According to the company, “ there is no indication that the data was misused ” For now. However, users are requested to exercise vigilance and victims will be able to benefit from support:
