Traditional financial officers set budgets with quotas, targets, and hard deadlines without considering of the capability of the process for which the budget is being set. Next, human resource officers enforce these quotas, targets, and hard deadlines via performance appraisal systems. The above actions blame the worker for unhealthy systemic problems created by management. This increases fear in the workplace and increases costs and decreases productivity and quality.
Deming-based Lean Six Sigma management provides a superior paradigm for decreasing costs and increasing productivity and quality, as well as making a joyful workplace. This theory has four component parts.
The first part was proposed by Dr. W. Edwards Deming. This part lays out an overarching system of management, called the System of Profound Knowledge. The second part was developed by Dr. Kaoru Ishikawa and others. This part lays out the administrative systems needed to implement process improvement and innovation to promote organizational change. The third part is Six Sigma management. It is the relentless search to reduce unit-to-unit variation in products and services, so that all outputs are as close to perfect as possible. The fourth part is Lean Thinking. It is the constant search for the elimination of waste making products and services cheaper, faster, and better for the customer.
