In 2022, he came to limelight when he sent his resignation letter to home minister Amit Shah saying that the members of his department, Jal Shakti department ignored him.

Political Career
In 2017, he contested the legislative assembly elections from Hastinapur constituency, won the 17th Legislative Assembly elections, and became a member of Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly. In 2021, he again won the seat from Hastinapur constituency in Legislative Assembly elections and joined the office on 26 September 2021.
Controversies
- Support to accused soldiers: In 2017, Dinesh went to SSP’s office to defend four officers after the SSP of Uttar Pradesh lined sixty-two soldiers for illegal work.
- Menacing the SDO of the electricity department: During his tenure as the MLA of Hastinapur constituency, Dinesh was accused of threatening the SDO of the electricity department in Mawana after he claimed that the SDO collected illegal money. The SDO complained about Dinesh, but the police did not take any action against him. Later, an audio clip of Dinesh threatening the police went viral.
- Growing crops by force: In 2017, the national executive member of Nirmal Gangajan Abhiyan Samiti Shantikunj, Haridwar, Mahendra Giri, accused Dinesh and his brother of forcibly growing crops on banks of Ganga.
- Warning to transfer police officer: On 16 August 2018, Dinesh threatened Munendra Pal Singh, inspector of Mawana police station of transferring him to Ballia if he didn’t leave the accused who was arrested by Munendra.
- Illicit occupying of land: Dinesh was alleged of illegally occupying the 600 bighas land in Hapur, Mirzapur village of Mawana, Meerut.
- Party workers do not follow the order: In 2022, Dinesh attracted controversy when he wrote his resignation letter from the post of MLA of Hastinapur constituency of Uttar Pradesh, and sent it straight to home minister Amit Shah. He said that the officers of his own department did not followed his order because he was a Dalit. In the letter, he wrote,
I have been appointed Minister of State in the Department of Jal Shakti under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath ji. No action is taken on any order nor any information is given to me, nor what schemes are currently operating in the department and what is happening on it etc. Because the Minister of State does not get any concrete information about the department.”
