The ID 4 is one of the weaker members of the new VW family. The critical eye looks milder on the version with hatchback and coupé airs, it’s called ID 5 and does a lot better. But not good enough.
In the Volkswagen range there is movement, one or the other model will get lost. This has to do with politically prescribed emission standards and the resulting increase in development costs, but also with home-grown difficulties. It is an open secret that the hosts who have just arrived in Wolfsburg are dissatisfied with what they found, especially in terms of design and workmanship. Group board member Oliver Blume and brand boss Thomas Schäfer are setting the course for change, back to the future if you will, because the current portfolio is badly missing many of the former VW virtues.
Without a doubt, the ID 2, a future small electric car in Polo format, is a milestone that will soon have to be finally decided. But we weren’t surprised if a hand was made on the existing offer. The ID 4 electric sedan, for example, which we consider to be one of the weakest members of the family. Sparingly constructed, random in appearance, that doesn’t satisfy car enthusiasts.
