Those who work in the home office have to print, copy, scan and sometimes even fax. A multifunction printer is ideal to ensure that various devices do not overwhelm your office at home: It not only prints text and images on paper, but at best can also handle all of the other tasks mentioned at the beginning. Along with HP, Canon and Brother, Epson is a big fish on the market. The Japanese manufacturer has already entered a large number of models: from workhorses to particularly swift representatives. COMPUTER BILD tested seven Epson multifunction printers.
Frequent printers are happy with the Epson Ecotank ET-2820 about extremely low costs, high print quality and high print speed – the device could only be a little faster when printing photos. Great: The Ecotank ET-2820 is a real power scrimp – it gets by with 0.8 watts in standby. Impractical: The output tray only holds 30 sheets – so you have to empty it often. Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4720DWF
The easy-to-use Epson WorkForce WF-4720DWF prints photos with very high print quality, but at a rather high cost. On the other hand, he puts graphics and text on paper cheaply and in an acceptable quality. However, the great strength of the Epson is its printing and scanning speed. In the test, it printed an A4 page in 17 seconds – a top performance.
Epson Expression Photo XP-8600
Even the Expression Photo XP-8600 doesn’t crack with the expensive ink – and has high printing costs. However, the print quality was quite decent, and the scanner was also convincing. Great: Photos and documents can be printed directly from the PC from a USB stick or external hard drive.
Epson Expression Premium XP-6100
The printer performed well: The print quality of the Expression Premium XP-6100 was good, the speed was high. However, the printing costs are more expensive than with the direct competitor Canon Pixma TR 8550. In addition, the Epson has no fax and does not have a Bluetooth or LAN socket.
The Epson EcoTank ET-2720 is only worthwhile for frequent printers, because only then do the extremely low printing costs become noticeable. The quality of the device depends on the paper: great on special paper, a bit patchy on normal paper – good for text, moderate for graphics.
Epson Expression Home XP-3100
The Epson Expression Home XP-3100 prints in color quickly: it creates a color graphic of the best quality in less than a minute, and it only needs a few seconds more for a 10×15 centimeter photo. It’s a shame that it’s lacking in color fidelity, otherwise the photos look pretty good. The high printing costs in color can be significantly reduced with an ink subscription.
Epson Expression Photo XP-2100
Of the Epson Expression Photo XP-2100 uses the same printing technology as its larger sister model, the XP-3100 (above), so it prints just as quickly and cheaply (in black and white). In terms of print quality, the little one even did a little better. Disadvantage of the XP-2100: It has no display for the menu settings.
