Exciting changes expected: Expert reveals Apple’s plans until 2027 – what should change with the iPhones
The rumor mill about the next iPhones is simmering. A display expert has now published exciting insider information about the future models. The front camera should move under the screen.
In September, Apple will probably introduce the new iPhones. As every year, the rumors spread in advance, which mostly consist of assumptions or hopes of the fans.
Now an industry insider has spoken out. Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), has published a roadmap and forecast features of future iPhone models up to the year 2027. As a display specialist, Young is primarily concerned with iPhone screens.
Dynamic Island for all models
Currently, the standard models can be easily distinguished from iPhones in the Pro series, because only the Pro has the Dynamic Island, i.e. the small pill at the top of the display that apps can use to display information. The standard iPhone, on the other hand, still shows the old notch in the display.
- iPhone 15/16: According to Young, that should change with the iPhone 15, the Dynamic Island should come to both model series. However, a difference should remain for the iPhone 15 and 16. In the standard iPhones, LTPS (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon) is to be used as the display technology, in the Pro models LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide).
- Always-on display: The advantage of LTPO is that the displays can move dynamically between 1 and 120 Hz, which on the one hand enables a great display, but on the other hand always-on displays without draining the battery too quickly. Only with the iPhone 17 should the standard iPhones get LTPO technology, better known at Apple as ProMotion.
Camera and Face ID under the display
- iPhone 17 Pro: But if Apple sticks to the strategy with Standard and Pro models, there must always be a technical edge for the expensive models. Young therefore predicts for the iPhone 17 Pro that Face ID components will move under the display. A small hole should be left out for the camera.
- iPhone 19 Pro: Those who use a standard iPhone are said to have to wait two years longer for this design innovation. It should then be exciting with the iPhone 19 Pro. Then the hole for the camera should also have disappeared. All Face ID and camera components should then be stowed under the display.
