iPhone manufacturer Foxconn from Taiwan wants to become a leading manufacturer of electric cars. But it’s not about your own brand. It’s about an electric car platform for third parties, and such a third party could be the major customer Apple.
SWhat is certain is that building an electric car is no longer as complicated as it used to be with conventional drives. The software in the car, on the other hand, is becoming increasingly important. And that is also of interest to a company like Sony, which also develops its own car prototypes and works together with Honda. Patrick Welter, our business correspondent in Tokyo, explains what this has to do with the robot dog Aibo, how established car manufacturers like Toyota are reacting to it, and why things aren’t working out even at Foxconn.
