Our assessment:
These prices for Amazon Echo devices are very attractive and are unlikely to drop any further over the course of the year. If you need a smart voice assistant, you get a lot of device for your money here.
Amazon plans to equip the Echos with additional AI functions, which could make the devices even smarter and more useful. However, this will require an Alexa subscription in the future (source: CHIP). As far as we can currently assess the situation, the current functions will remain free of charge.
