After appointing Elon Musk as co-director of the future Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Donald Trump continues to shape his Administration in his image. Thus, the future president of the United States called on a former director of the SEC whom he knows well to appoint him federal prosecutor.
Former SEC Director as Federal Prosecutor for the Southern District of New York
Soon to be inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump announced that Jay Clayton would be his federal prosecutor for the Southern District of New York. This trial court is known for having dealt with several cases linked to cryptocurrenciesincluding the lawsuit filed against former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried.
Aged 58, Jay Clayton is known to have been the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) between May 2017 and December 2020. Over this period, the cryptocurrency market experienced its first breakthroughs while lawsuits against players in the sector began to multiply.

At the time, the former chairman of the SEC had notably brought lawsuits against Kik, Telegram or even Ripple whom he had accused of having raised $1.3 billion through the sale of his XRP tokens which, according to him, were not registered.
Following his tenure as head of the SEC, he joined the ranks of the law firm Sullivan & Cromwell LLP where he had worked in the past. He also joined the board of directors of the American alternative management company Apollo Global Management.
In 2020, Donald Trump previously tried to nominate Jay Clayton for federal prosecutor for the Southern District of New York. However, his defeat in the 2020 US presidential elections facing Joe Biden had cut short this desire.
