The people of Frankfurt have decided to start over. The candidates for the mayoral election in March have been determined. What you can already know about them is enough for a look ahead.
Bno more looking back. Frankfurt will have a new mayor in March. Peter Feldmann (SPD) has achieved historic things: He is the first mayor of the city to be voted out directly by the citizens. So much for the past, what matters is that the gate has been thrown open for a new beginning in 2023. Because through the will of its citizens, Frankfurt will soon have a choice again. Almost all parties that make up the city government in Frankfurt’s Römer have hastened to nominate their candidates for Frankfurt’s mayoral election on March 5: Greens, SPD and FDP. Only Volt, part of the coalition but represented for the first time in the Römer, waives. On the other hand, the largest opposition party, the CDU, was also quick to make its own mark.
Linke, Bürger für Frankfurt (BFF) and AfD also know who they want to send into the race. Since the election of Frankfurt’s mayor is not a party election, independent candidates can also court the more than 500,000 eligible voters. So far, two other people have expressed interest. These are the tram driver Peter Wirth, known as “Bahnbabo”, and the entrepreneur and event organizer Maja Wolff.
