VDefender Jean-Clair Todibo has conceded the fastest red card in Ligue 1 history in France. The OGC Nice defender had to leave the field after just nine seconds of Sunday’s home game against SCO Angers after an emergency brake.
The former professional from Schalke 04 and FC Barcelona left the pitch shaking his head and later expressed his incomprehension via Twitter. Todibo wrote that it was “an arbitrary decision that shocks me and condemns my team to start the game at a huge disadvantage”. The referees’ decisions at the start of the season were “very questionable, even scandalous”.
There hasn’t been a faster card – whether yellow or red – in Ligue 1 since the data was collected centrally in the 2006/2007 season.
OGC Nice, coached by Lucien Favre, suffered a 1-0 defeat, although the guests also had to play ten men from the 62nd minute. Former Schalke player Nabil Bentaleb scored the goal for Angers. Nice is the opponent of 1. FC Köln in the Conference League.
