From AI technologies to high-resolution displays to compact designs: the IFA in Berlin once again offered a spectacle of tech innovations with over 2,000 exhibitors. Here are some highlights.
The IFA in Berlin is, alongside the World Mobile Congress (WMC) in Barcelona and the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Los Angeles, the most important trade fair for electrical and technical devices. This year, the exhibition at the Berlin exhibition center counts 2,200 exhibitors from the industry. It is almost a given that there will be numerous highlights, with everyone from large international corporations to small start-ups presenting their latest devices. Here are some of the trade fair highlights.
The world's thinnest foldable phone
A highlight of the IFA 2024 was the Honor “Magic V3”. The extremely flat, foldable smartphone is only 9.2 millimeters thick when folded – about the same as most conventional smartphones. It is equipped with a “Snapdragon 8 Gen 3” processor and a versatile camera system.
Both the internal and external OLED displays impress with their high resolutions, while the camera with a 50-megapixel sensor and periscope telephoto lens enables appealing photography. In addition, there is an average 5,050 mAh battery, which has a higher capacity than comparable devices despite the limited space. In terms of price, however, the “Magic V3” with a starting price of 1,990 euros is on par with or even slightly above the level of its direct competitors.
Video, sound and more: IFA 2024 had a lot to offer
Another eye-catcher at the IFA was the “X11 Series QD-Mini LED TV” from TCL, which attracted attention with a maximum brightness of up to 6,500 nits and 4K HDR picture quality. The device supports Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+, while its edgeless design and collaboration with Bang & Olufsen also impress with its acoustics. Gamers benefit from features such as a 240Hz display and “AMD FreeSync Premium Pro”. However, a release date and price for the European market have not yet been announced in Berlin.
The “Aura 2 Ultra” short-throw projector from Xgimi was also impressive. With a brightness of 2,300 ISO lumens, support for Dolby Vision and Atmos, and “IMAX Enhanced” compatibility, it is aimed at home cinema enthusiasts who value quality. The projection of a 100-inch screen diagonal from a distance of just 17.8 cm is particularly impressive. The device can be purchased directly from the manufacturer for 2,899 euros.
In the audio sector, the “SC-CX700” from Technics sets standards – a wireless speaker system that offers a variety of connection options such as HDMI ARC and phono inputs as well as supported streaming services such as Spotify and Tidal. The elegant design and high-quality audio playback set new standards in the field of wireless audio systems. However, the high-end speakers also have their price with an RRP of 2,499 euros.
Robot vacuum cleaners: progress in miniature form
The “Qrevo Slim” from Roborock was also innovative. It is a particularly flat vacuum and cleaning robot, equipped with a suction power of up to 18,500 Pascal (manufacturer information), 3D mapping and an automatic obstacle detection system. The device overcomes obstacles up to a height of four centimeters, which should make cleaning even in an old building a success.
In addition, the device, which is equipped with two mops, wipes dry or wet and then cleans itself in the associated docking station. Thanks to its compact design, the robot can clean efficiently under furniture and in tight spaces, and Roborock also promises that no hair gets caught in the device. The regular price is 1,499.99 euros – the company is currently offering the “Qrevo Slim” at a reduced price.
