For a long time, a lack of storage space was not an issue for users of Samsung smartphones. In contrast to the competition from Apple, the devices from the South Koreans could be upgraded with microSD cards as standard, so that capacities of up to 1 terabyte were available at a ridiculous price. That ended a long time ago. Samsung has removed the memory card slot from its more recent flagship cell phones and is now following the example of the iPhone & Co.: If you want more memory, you’re forced to dig deeper into your pocket. In the case of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 folding phone, which is expected for the second half of 2022, this approach could open the door to new price dimensions.

Galaxy Z Fold 4 with new storage option
As the website sammobile.com reports, citing insider sources, Samsung wants to offer the device with a particularly large memory. While the top model of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 still had 512 gigabytes, the successor should catch up with the Galaxy S22 Ultra and open in a 1 terabyte variant. A price is not yet known, but it should be astronomical. For your orientation: The Galaxy Z Fold 3 cost a whopping 1,899 euros in the largest version at the start. With twice the memory and probably all sorts of improvements compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 could easily break the 2,000 euro mark.
Smaller memory variants remain in the program
Whether that actually happens remains to be seen. In the past, however, sammobile.com was often right with its predictions, especially with regard to memory sizes. Anyone who is already internally saying goodbye to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 does not have to throw in the towel in view of the monstrous price prospects. According to the report, Samsung will continue to release its new top folder in the memory variants 512 and 256 gigabytes. They should then take a similar course to the current models. The cheapest variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 initially cost 1,799 euros and is now “already” available from Samsung for 1,359 euros. No matter how the pricing of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 turns out, one thing should already be certain – it won’t be a bargain!
