The Game Awards 2024 brought together gaming and Hollywood glamor with stars like Harrison Ford, Snoop Dogg and Ella Purnell. This is the game of the year.
The gaming world looked excitedly to Los Angeles when the 2024 Game Awards were presented on the night of December 13th. The event not only brought together international big names from the entertainment industry. There were also eagerly awaited new announcements on display at the award ceremony.
The top winners of the Game Awards
Video game journalist Geoff Keighley (46) has been holding the Game Awards for ten years now. The main prize of the anniversary evening went to “Astro Bot”, a charming platformer from Sony. The game dominated several categories and won the coveted Game of the Year award.
The deck-building card game “Balatro” also wrote a remarkable success story. Developed by just one person, it received, among other things, the award for “Indie Game of the Year” and the award for the most outstanding indie debut. German actress Melina Juergens triumphed in the “Best Performance” category for “Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II”.
Spectacular new announcements
The event always features top-class game announcements. Developers large and small will show new games and trailers at the event. An early highlight of the show was the official reveal of “The Witcher IV” – in a visually impressive trailer that shows Ciri as the central protagonist.
The announcement of “Elden Ring Nightreign”, a multiplayer offshoot in the celebrated gaming universe, also caused enthusiasm. Fantasy enthusiasts could also look forward to “Game of Thrones: Kingsroad,” which was announced for 2025 and features characters well-known from the series such as Jon Snow and Cersei Lannister.
The crowning finale was the announcement of “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet” from Naughty Dog, known for the “Uncharted” and “The Last of Us” series. The new space adventure follows the story of bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun on an alien planet.
Celebrity guests from Harrison Ford to Snoop Dogg
The award ceremony sparkled with illustrious guests from the world of video games, film and music. Hollywood icon Harrison Ford (82) created a memorable moment with her appearance. However, when presenting the “Best Performance” award to Melina Juergens, Ford accidentally called “Melinda” on stage.
Hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg (53) made two appearances: together with his son Cordell Broadus (27), he announced one of the winners and later presented his new track “Thank You” and the classic “Gin and Juice”. There was also a performance by Twenty One Pilots, while “Fallout” was named best adaptation – to the delight of the leading actress Ella Purnell (28), who was present.
