Last night in Cupertino, California, Apple unveiled the latest iPhone 16 models and much more. The iPhone 16 will be released in the four familiar variants: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
All models are equipped with the new A18 processor, which promises a 30 percent increase in performance compared to the iPhone 14. Particularly noteworthy is the A18 Pro, which is installed in the Pro models and offers improved graphics and AI performance, making it 15 percent faster than its predecessor. The housing design has been adapted to enable more efficient heat dissipation.
The displays of the Pro models are now slightly larger at 6.3 and 6.9 inches and have narrower display edges. A new feature is the action button, which replaces the conventional ringtone switch and can be individually configured with quick access. Another new feature is the “Capture Button” for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. This is pressure-sensitive and supports touch gestures. It can be used when taking photos.
High prices set for new iPhone 16
The iPhone 16's camera features a slightly improved 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. The iPhone 16 Pro has a five-fold optical zoom, while the standard models offer a macro mode. For video recording, the Pro model supports 4K at 120 Hertz as well as faster USB 3 transfer rates thanks to the USB-C port. Battery capacities have also been slightly increased, while power consumption has been reduced thanks to more efficient chips.
The iPhone 16 starts at 949 euros for the model with 128 GB storage, while the iPhone 16 Plus is available from 1099 euros. The Pro models start at 1199 euros for 128 GB, and the Pro Max starts at 1449 euros for the 256 GB variant. This means Apple remains true to its premium pricing strategy.
Apple Intelligence for the iPhone 16
A significant innovation is “Apple Intelligence”, an AI that is intended to significantly improve interaction with Siri. This AI, which was introduced in the summer, enables, among other things, more contextual and natural answers and uses information from various apps to provide relevant advice. However, it is not yet known when this AI function will also be available in Germany.
In addition, new AirPods and an Apple Watch were introduced. A complete summary of the Apple presentation can be found here at CHIP.de.
