This week, Google presented Willow, a new quantum chip displaying mind-blowing results. In fact, the company measured its speed against Frontier, one of the fastest supercomputers in the world to date. In 5 minutes, Willow managed to carry out a calculation whose resolution time was estimated at 10^25 years for Frontier, a number which would be expressed in French by 1,000 quadrillion years:
If you want to write it down, it's 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years. This staggering number exceeds the time scales known in physics and far exceeds the age of the universe.

In comments reported by Bloomberg, Hartmut Neven, the founder of Google Quantum AI, explains that the company intends to provide real-world use for Willow, which would be beyond the reach of a traditional computer:
If you can't solve at least one problem, you won't be able to solve a useful problem either. This goal is now within reach.

Moreover, Willow would stand out from other quantum chip prototypes by being one of the most reliable with respect to quantum errors.
To explain the concept simply, in classical computing, bits have either a value of 1 or 0. In quantum computing, they are no longer bits, but qbits, which can be both 1 and 0. process being very complex, the slightest disturbance such as a change in temperature, noise or an electromagnetic wave can disrupt the operation of the qbits, and cause errors.

To date, developments in quantum computing are still in their early stages, but it's a topic that Web3 developers are already taking seriously. For example, Vitalik Buterin shared his thoughts on the subject last October, in order to guard against a threat that may not materialize for many years.
