When Govardhan was a teenager, he shifted from his village to Hyderabad to make his career in acting, but while pursuing an acting course, he realised that he was camera conscious. He then decided to work behind the cameras as a director. At that time, satellite channels were setting up in India. Govardhan was then approached by a production house, but he did not want to work under bosses. Later, he asked the people from his village to invest in his business. During an interview, while talking about the same, Govardhan’s son Vijay said,
A few production houses asked dad to direct for them. He comes from a ‘dora’ mindset of not wanting to work for others. So he got real estate people from the village to invest. They did it just to see their names on TV. But they backed out when payments were delayed. Then dad worked on ad films for the government and it kept us going. Dad is my staunch supporter. He is so happy for me today.”
Facts/Trivia

- In an interview, while talking about Govardhan Rao, his son Vijay Deverakonda said,
Growing up, my dad taught me that love is bullshit and that money is the centre of this world…This was ingrained in me so deeply that when I grew into an adult, I didn’t believe in relationships. I began believing that whoever came to me, came with a want. When someone said they love me, I never said I love you too. Till today, it doesn’t come as naturally as it should.”
