Apple has been setting standards in the computer sector for over 35 years – and has a cult following among its fans. Old treasures from the early days of the technology company are still in great demand. When such pieces come to market, be it early computers, MacBooks or iPhones, they often fetch high prices at auction. This is certainly also due to the fact that the devices often still work after decades. At an auction, one bidder bought an iPhone from 2007, still in its original packaging, for the equivalent of around 59,400 euros. High prices are also expected at the upcoming auction.
The Swiss collector, teacher and company founder Hanspeter Luzi collected more than 500 computers and other Apple products. He died in a mountain accident in 2015. His family now wants to sell the extensive collection. She is offering the Apple collection through the Juliens auction house in Beverly Hills, California.
Apple collection: “Hanspeter Luzi Vintage Apple Archive” will be auctioned
In 1976, Steve Jobs developed the first Apple computers in his parents’ garage in Los Altos, California. In the more than 35 years that followed, he changed the world with his technological achievements and groundbreaking innovations. With the development of the Apple I and Apple II by co-founder Steve Wozniak, the company created the first mass-produced personal computers.
The introduction of the Macintosh in 1984 also played a crucial role in the development of personal computers. At the launch of the Macintosh 128K in January 1984, Apple presented its famous $1.5 million commercial, directed by Ridley Scott, entitled “1984.”
“All of these products have really shaped the cultural zeitgeist and sparked a cultural shift in the way we work, learn, act and communicate and even spend our free time,” said Erik Rosenblum of Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills about the collection on offer . “We’re in an interesting time…just as we’ve gone from being an everyday household use of an Apple computer to a historical artifact,” continued Rosenblum.
