In November 2022, Dwivedi attracted controversy when a nine-year-old boy named Abhishek Rajbhar was crushed under an SUV belonging to Dwivedi near the Hardiya petrol pump in Basti district. On 27 November 2022, the police lodged an FIR against the unidentified driver of the SUV under the charges of causing death by negligence and rash driving or riding on a public way. Basti superintendent of police Ashish Srivastava assured that the probe was underway. However, the victim’s father, Shatrughan Rajbhar, alleged that no action was being taken by police against Dwivedi or the driver despite the MP and his SUV being clearly visible in the CCTV footage.
