For bargain hunters, July 16 and 17 are two important days in the calendar: Amazon is hosting Prime Day for the tenth time. Customers can choose from a variety of deals.
Attention all savings lovers: Amazon is celebrating its Prime Day again. Members can make numerous savings, as the online giant promises hundreds of thousands of deals in advance. As always, shoppers can find discounted products from a wide variety of categories on the mail order company's website. The product range includes sectors such as cosmetics, fashion, household goods and electronics.
Prime Day takes place on July 16 and 17
Many people are hoping for a bargain, especially on Prime Day, similar to Black Friday. Although the established online campaign is called “Prime Day”, the discounts for Prime members are not limited to just one day. In the run-up to the savings event, which is now taking place for the tenth time, there have already been some advance deals and the actual Prime Day will take place over 48 hours on July 16 and 17. Kerstin Giebels, Head of Prime at Amazon.de, assures in an announcement a shopping experience “with high discounts in every category”.
New deals are gradually added during the promotional days. Amazon promises that the offers will include products from smaller companies as well as products from major brands such as AEG, Lego, Sony and WMF. In recent years, for example, the offer has included reduced televisions from Samsung, coffee machines from De'Longhi and care products from L'Oréal Paris and Nivea. The mail order company also wants to offer bargains tailored to customers through categories such as “Offers you might like”, “Offers for you” and “Offers on items you have saved”.
Amazon's own technology at reduced prices
Amazon is also once again offering its own technology at a temporary discount. These include smart speakers such as the devices from the Echo Dot series or the recently introduced Echo Spot. The intelligent alarm clock designed for the bedside table supports the Alexa voice assistant like the Dots.
Furthermore, Fire TV devices are being offered at a lower price. This could be of particular interest to those who are still looking for an alternative to their cable TV connection after the abolition of the additional cost privilege on July 1st. For example, the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K enables TV and streaming content to be streamed on the home TV or monitor. Supported services include YouTube, public media libraries, TV services such as Zattoo or streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon's own Prime Video, which is included in the Prime membership. However, an additional amount of 2.99 euros per month must be paid for ad-free Prime Video content.
Save thanks to the well-known Prime trick
As mentioned before, only Prime members can benefit from these savings days. For those who are not currently members, there is an old trick – a trial membership. New customers can test a Prime membership for free for 30 days and also buy products at a discount on Prime Day.
However, after the trial period, membership in Germany costs either €8.99 per month or €89.90 per year, depending on the membership chosen. Trainees and students receive membership free of charge for six months and then receive a 50 percent discount. People who are exempt from paying the broadcasting license fee can take out membership for half the price of €4.49 per month. The same applies to holders of a social pass from a participating city such as Berlin, Dresden, Cologne, Mannheim, Nuremberg or Wuppertal. Further information can be found on the Amazon website.
