ZFor the first time in many, many years, I haven’t been to Germany once this year. That’s because of the war, our war, which very quickly became our common war, but it hasn’t become quite complete yet. Not quite complete in the sense of together, although this view is now also widespread in Germany, it is obviously not (yet) enough.
So this year I can’t help but look at Germany from the Ukraine, subspecie Ucrainae as it were. This is quite a historical moment, because when was it already the case that Germany was not only viewed from the Ukrainian perspective (we do that all the time, we often interpret Germany from our Ukrainian perspective, but we were almost heard never), but that it was also willing, or rather: compelled, to see and measure itself under the crucial influence of Ukraine. Probably never.
